Conferences and Workshops

UKHCA will continue to run its successful conference and event programme in 2015. Workshops will include popular events such as medication and end of life care and we will add to this workshops requested by members as the year progresses.

Once again, we will be holding a number of HR workshops, such as recruitment and retention and performance management. In addition, we hope to run a number of business support workshops such as health and safety and developing the care business.

If there are other workshops you would like to see us host in 2015, or to suggest a workshop topic and location please e-mail conferences@ukhca.co.uk. Whilst we can't promise to hold an event close to you, the programme will be developed based on the location of those who have expressed an interest in a course (provided our minimum numbers have been achieved).

Don't forget that all events can now be booked by debit or credit card. To use this service, please phone 020 8661 8185.

CQC – Proving Compliance Workshop

The Care Quality Commission has a remit to ensure compliance with the regulations set out in the Fundamental standards 2015. However, in practice this can prove quite an onerous task, and organisations have been asking—”Where do we start?” This one day workshop is aimed at bringing providers fully up to date with changes to the way Care Quality Commission inspect home care providers. The workshop looks in detail at the Fundamental standards 2015, and key lines of enquiry, and how to evidence that these are being met effectively. The workshop will outline the different types of evidence that might be considered for each KLOE. Providers will also be able to understand how the inspection process works and how ratings are awarded.

End of Life Care - Train the Trainer workshop

This train the trainer course will support homecare provider’s best practice during end of life care for service users and their families. Delegates attending this workshop will receive a detailed and comprehensive End of life training resource pack, which includes a trainer’s handbook, a staff workbook, exercises and competency sheets and a CD containing a PowerPoint presentation of the entire course. Over 500,000 people die in the UK each year, however projections estimate that the death rate will rise by 17% from 2012 to 2030 across the UK, with more deaths expected in the over 85’s, rising from around 32% in 2003 to 44% in 2030. It is therefore imperative that home based end of life care services are available with health and social care staff working jointly to provide service users and their family an integrated approach to end of life care. Staff should be well trained and able to support service users wishing to stay at home when nearing the end of their life. About the trainer UKHCA’s trainers are all specialists’ trainers, with relevant qualifications, in-depth knowledge and work based experience in the sector. For individual trainer biography’s, please see the delegate pack issued on the day of training.

Marketing your homecare business to private clients workshop

Homecare providers are currently facing many challenges. The declining attractiveness of LA funded businesses and the increase in private market for is the current trend in the sector. Many homecare providers, although excellent at providing Care, have little or no experience of marketing their organisation effectively. Standing out from the crowd and showing your credibility is the key to success. The purpose of this workshop is to support homecare providers to understand how to develop a consumer focused approach to their businesses and the processes required to achieve this. This day will be informative, strategic, but also interactive and thought provoking. The actions and understandings you take away will be entirely practical and usable within your organisation.

Local authority contracts are still the mainstay of homecare providers, with some 82% of homecare providers’ work coming this way. Even with the growing personalisation agenda contracting continues to play a major part in business development and growth. This workshop will help you to identify whether the tender advertised is right for your business needs.
