Code of Practice
The UKHCA Code of Practice provides the guidelines to enable UKHCA member organisations providing home care to operate in such a way that:
- The highest standards of care are provided
- The rights and welfare of clients are paramount
- The rights and welfare of care workers are protected
All member organisations of the UKHCA are bound by the Code and are required to comply with it. This enables the organisation to publicise that it is ‘working to the UKHCA Code of Practice standards’.
A copy of the Code should be given to all care workers and clients, or the client’s representative.

Complaints Procedure
Home care providers in England, Scotland and Wales have a legal requirement to operate a complaints procedure, and a similar requirement will soon be imposed in Northern Ireland.
The aim is to sort out complaints quickly and to prevent smaller problems from becoming larger ones.
UKHCA members are also required to have a complaints procedure in place under the UKHCA Code of Practice. To help members we have developed The UKHCA Recommended Client Complaints Procedure and a summary of this procedure suitable for handing to clients called The UKHCA Recommended Complaints Procedure for the Use of Clients.
