Media Release : UKHCA appoints new Chief Executive - 18/05/2010

The homecare sector’s premier representative body, the United Kingdom Homecare Association, has announced the name of its new Chief Executive.

Bridget Warr has been chosen to take the Association forward into an exciting new era and will take up her post in July.

She replaces Lesley Rimmer OBE who has retired after 19 years in the post.

Bridget has been Chief Executive of The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association for six years. During that time she drove major change throughout the organisation helping re-position the public’s perception of Guide Dogs as a charity that supports the all round mobility of people with visual impairment, rather than simply the charity that delivers guide dogs.

Bridget also improved the charity’s financial position, building its annual turnover considerably and working hard to promote Guide Dogs nationally and internationally.

UKHCA chair Mike Padgham said he was delighted to have Bridget join UKHCA as its Chief Executive.

“Bridget has an excellent track record, particularly in the area of growing organisations, increasing their influence and fundraising – all essential for the future growth of UKHCA,” he said.

“The final candidates for the post were of an extremely high calibre and our decision was a difficult one. We were looking for an individual with exceptional qualities of vision, drive and passion to take the organisation forward.

“We believe that in Bridget we have found that person, someone with the ability and excellent leadership skills to move UKHCA into a new era of growth and increased influence.”

Bridget said she was very excited at the prospect of taking up the Chief Executive role with UKHCA.

UKHCA is an enterprising, forward-looking organisation that is looking to grow and increase its role and influence in the vital homecare sector,” she said.

“It is a great honour for me to be given the opportunity to play a role in that growth and hopefully bring my past experiences and expertise to the Chief Executive position.

“I look forward to working with Mike, the rest of the Board and all the UKHCA team and its members in moving the organisation on to bigger and better things in the future.”

Prior to working for Guide Dogs, Bridget was at Scope for 15 years as Executive Director, during which she was responsible for a wide range of areas of service delivery and support including employment and community services. As part of the corporate management team Bridget helped Scope improve its finances and to reach new audiences. Earlier in her career Bridget worked in education, probation, social work and adoption and foster care. She has also held a number of non-executive roles including trusteeship of the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations and Chair of the global standard –setting body for guide dog services.
