Media Release : Spending cuts must not damage frontline social care - 24/05/2010

The leading domiciliary care providers’ association, United Kingdom Homecare Association, responded to the Chancellor’s announcement of £6.2bn cuts in public spending.

UKHCA Chair, Mike Padgham said:

“We are clearly in a period that calls for courageous public spending restraint. However, with local government expected to make £1.165bn savings, and the removal of remaining ring-fencing, we continue to be deeply concerned at the way many councils are passing their efficiency savings to frontline independent sector providers through downward pressure on prices and increasingly unsatisfactory contract terms.

UKHCA calls on all councils to regard homecare as a clear priority -the sector provides significant savings compared to residential care and vitally important employment to local communities.”

Ends.
