European Social Fund (ESF) Project (England) Engaging Employers In Homecare (2005-2007)

Introduction

UKHCA is delighted to announce that it has been awarded nearly £800,000 from the European Social Fund for a three year project that is to be delivered in Objective 3 areas of England (excludes Cornwall, Wirral and South Yorkshire).

The project will address the need to update and up-skill home care workers, with a special focus on isolated, small and medium sized organisations within the independent sector in England currently not engaged in training.

Aims

The aims of the project are:

  • To enhance the understanding and skills of managers through support by Regional Development Managers and provision of workshops and materials identifying good employment practices.
  • To reduce the isolation of small employers by the development of local networks and training events. This will provide a national infrastructure which will ensure that Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SME’s) are as informed and updated on legislative requirements as their larger rival companies.
  • To assist SME’s to develop the managerial capacity to enable them to continue the training that was supported by the ESF project, in the most cost effective manner, after the project has finished.

Methodology

  • Regional Development Managers and other staff will be recruited and staff induction will take place.
  • A combination of workshops and individual support sessions will take place to build up in-house Workforce Development Plans.
  • Beneficiaries will be signed up with regard to ensuring they are an isolated SME, who are not currently linked to regional organisations, have not yet adopted workforce development strategies and who are not engaged in other training support programmes.
  • Communication and signposting sources of information will take place through environmentally friendly systems eg. E-mail/Internet.
  • Regional Development Managers will assist with identifying suitable training provision, funding and other support such as Investors in People programmes, Business Link, Topss, Regional Committees, local strategic partnerships and COVE colleges.
  • Resources such as other training funding, training support and information will be identified and developed locally to ensure that training will be sustainable once the project finishes.
  • Workshops will take place for managers and staff on topical employment issues.
  • A series of cluster groups will be developed to assist managers which will enable them to support candidates locally with their training.
  • Regional Development Managers will remain in touch with training organisations throughout the project to support and mentor them in their training and development activities.

Introduction

The project is now coming to its last three months and will close on 31st December 2007. Over the final three months, work will be taking place to ensure that those who received funding within the project have completing their training. The work of the Regional Development Managers will be winding down, although there is still limited availability for assistance within the project.

Regional Development Managers (RDMs)

We still have two Regional Development Managers working on the project. One based in the north of England, one based in the south. Although we have some last minute assistance in south West England before the project finally closes.

Your local Regional Development Manager can still provide you with:

  • Training advice and support
  • Help to produce a Workforce Development Plan for your organisation
  • Information about other funding opportunities in your area.
  • 2-hour Business and Information Guidance workshops

However, due to the location of RDMs this may need to be telephone assistance instead of face-to-face discussion.
