Major homecare consultation in Wales 19/01/2016

UKHCA has responded to the Welsh Government consultation on potential actions to improve the recruitment and retention of domiciliary care workers in Wales. The consultation followed research by Manchester Metropolitan University’s Business School that showed 'there is a clear relationship between domiciliary care employment terms and conditions and the quality of care provided.' The consultation included proposals to restrict zero hours contracts by number of care hours or the percentage of care hours domiciliary care providers can deliver, give Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales powers to carry out NMW compliance checks when inspecting providers and introduce measures to 'prevent call clipping, a process whereby calls are systematically cut short as care workers either do not have enough or any time to travel between calls.' More from: http://gov.wales/newsroom/healthandsocialcare/2016/150119proposals/?lang=en The consultation is now closed. UKHCA response submitted in April 2016.
