UKHCA Media Release

UKHCA’s response to the ministerial appointment of David Mowat MP - 25/07/2016

On behalf of United Kingdom Homecare Association (UKHCA) Chief Executive, Bridget Warr CBE said:

“Congratulations to David Mowat MP, on his new role as the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Health with responsibility for adult social care.

“I hope that David’s past experience of being elected to the Public Accounts Committee will support him in understanding how serious a problem funding is to the homecare sector.

“Alistair Burt, the former Minister of State for Community and Social Care, stated clearly his commitment to helping older and disabled people live independently in their own home and I hope that David Mowat will ensure that this is made possible through robust government support for social care.

“We look forward to establishing a constructive working relationship for the benefit of people needing homecare and those who provide it.”

Notes for Editors

1. UKHCA’s mission, as a member-led professional association, is to promote high quality, sustainable care services so that people can continue to live at home and in their local community. We do this by campaigning and through leadership and support to social care providers.

2. Homecare encompasses provision of personal care, to people in their own homes. For many, homecare is the alternative of choice for people who would otherwise need to move into residential accommodation.

3. The majority of homecare is funded by the state (usually by local council social services departments, Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), or Health and Social Care Trusts in Northern Ireland). However, homecare services are largely delivered by independent and voluntary sector providers working under contracts with the statutory sector.
