UKHCA Media Release

Government announces new PPE guidance - 28/04/2020

The Government has announced new PPE guidance for the homecare sector.

United Kingdom Homecare Association's Policy Director Colin Angel said:

"New guidance on PPE for homecare providers in England gives much-needed clarity on when protective equipment should be used during the 'sustained transmission' phase of COVID-19. The new guidance is therefore a considerable improvement on materials previously published. However, there is a massive gap between the current supply of PPE and the expectations set-out in the guidance; a matter which UKHCA is in daily contact with the Department of Health and Social Care.

"We have also been alerted to the difficulties which providers are experiencing in obtaining facemasks which meet the technical specifications outlined by Government. There is now an urgent need to provide guidance on whether there are acceptable tolerances in the specifications, so that care providers can be confident that they are buying the right PPE to protect members of the workforce."

NB: The technical specifications in the second paragraph are available here. It would be really helpful for providers if you could include a link to that in your article.
