The NHS Long Term Plan has been published and sets out how the extra £20.5 billion funding for the NHS in England by 2023-24 will be allocated. Although around a third is expected to be spent on community care, GPs and mental health, with a greater emphasis on prevention and providing care nearer to home, the plan presents an incomplete picture without the much-delayed social care Green Paper, although the Government does commit to funding adult social care funding at a level which will prevent additional pressure on the NHS over the next five years.
