Survey reveals poor state of local government finances in EnglandSurvey reveals poor state of local government finances in England

The 2019 State of Local Government Finance Survey has revealed that most councils in England plan to raise council tax in 2019/20 and increase charges to compensate for reduced government funding. 53% are using reserves, 81% are investing in commercial developments and nearly half are planning to cut services, with a quarter saying these would be noticed by the public. One in 20 councils (22 in England) are concerned they will not be able to deliver legal minimum services for residents.
