Warning of tax increases to cover care costsWarning of tax increases to cover care costs

Matt Hancock, Secretary of State of Department of Health and Social Care, and responsible for publishing the social care Green Paper has, according to the Daily Telegraph, warned about substantial tax increases if plans for a £100,000 care cap are introduced.

It is understood that Mr Hancock would prefer a new system of insurance to fund care for older people which could operate in a similar way to the auto-enrolment pension scheme. However, Philip Hammond, Chancellor of the Exchequer, is concerned about the impact such a scheme would have on people's pay packets.
