Analysis by commissioned by Age UK suggests that about 30% of postcodes in England have no residential care beds, and 60%, no nursing home places, leading to 'care deserts'. Researchers said it is harder to quantify access to help at home, but this is undoubtedly a problem, with the number of hours of care falling.

With council spending having decreased by 9% per person in real terms since 2010, and an increased reliance on self-funders, the care system is broken and the Green Paper cannot come soon enough. More from:
