Health and Social Care Secretary favours insurance-based schemeHealth and Social Care Secretary favours insurance-based scheme

According to an interview given to the press, Health and Social Secretary Matt Hancock MP favours an (initially voluntary) insurance based scheme to pay for social care in the future and is less keen on the idea of a cap on expenditure, when the adult social care green paper is eventually published. Workers would have to fund average lifetime costs of around £40,000. The Health and Social Care Secretary also pledged a £3.5 billion cash injection to prop up the social care system.

The interview was given in the context of the Conservative Party leadership contest, as Mr Hancock is expected to launch his bid to become leader today. Daily Mail article
