The case definition for suspected COVID -19 changed from 18 May 2020 - all individuals should self-isolate if they develop a new continuous cough or fever or anosmia. Anosmia is the loss or a change in your normal sense of smell. Statement from the four UK Chief Medical Officers.

PPE and infection control

The Scottish Government has issued guidance on changes to PPE supply, published 29 April 2020, which says providers should use local PPE Hubs. They have been emailed contact details. Providers can also contact the NHS National Services Scotland Social Care PPE Support Centre on 0300 303 3020 for details of their local Hub.

Workforce and training

The Scottish Social Service Council and NHS Education for Scotland (NES) have a Health and social care COVID-19 accelerated recruitment portal Information for Employers

The Care Inspectorate has relaxed its advice that providers should seek updates on individual staff PVG Scheme membership every three years. Existing guidance in Protecting Vulnerable Groups - Guidance for Care Inspectorate Staff and Service Providers (2015) is best practice, not a requirement of Disclosure Scotland.

Disclosure Scotland is currently prioritising checks for workers needed to deal with coronavirus, including social care workers. Disclosures for workers in priority sectors are free until until midnight on 25 December 2020. More information

Information about advice for businesses, including getting funding. 

Review of adult social care in Scotland to consider national care service. An independent review is to consider how adult social care can be reformed to deliver a national approach to care and support services. The review, set up under Scotland's Programme for Government, will be chaired by Derek Feeley, former director general of Health and Social Care in the Scottish Government.
