MPs debate social care petition in ParliamentMPs debate social care petition in Parliament

Over 43,000 people signed a petition calling for social care to be given equal recognition to the NHS and health system, resulting in the petition being debated in House of Commons on 25 June 2020.

A range of MPs spoke from across the political divide, with notable contributions from Catherine McKinnell (Labour), who introduced the debate, Rushanara Ali (Labour), and Paul Bristow (Conservative), among other MPs who warmly supported the work of social care workers in the pandemic.

Helen Whately MP, Care Minister, winding up the debate, said the Government would be looking at how they can build a long term solution for social care, so that in the long term care workers get the rewards they deserve. Catherine McKinnell said she hoped MPs would support action on this.

You can watch the debate via Parliament TV on this link, read the Hansard report of debate and view the original petition on this link.
