Scottish Government launches Social Care Staff Support FundScottish Government launches Social Care Staff Support Fund

The Scottish Government is launching the Social Care Staff Support Fund, to top up statutory sick pay, so social care workers do not experience financial hardship if they are ill or self-isolating due to coronavirus. This is intended to encourage social care workers to be tested, where appropriate, under the national Test and Protect programme.

Social care workers contracted to deliver care and support in the social care sector, as defined by section 47 of the Public Services Reform (Scotland) Act 2010, are eligible for support from the Fund. The list of workers who are eligible includes care at home workers providing essential support to people so that they can live independently in their homes. This includes housing support workers working in homelessness, addiction services and mental health.

Social care agency workers or self-employed are not included. People who employ their own personal assistant with funding from the Independent Living Fund should apply to the ILF for help with additional costs.
