Updated advice for people shielding in ScotlandUpdated advice for people shielding in Scotland

Advice for people who are shielding is to change in the coming month. The Chief Medical Officer is writing to affected individuals with new guidelines. From 10 July those shielding:

  • Will no longer need to physically distance from people they live with.
  • Can meet in groups of up to 8 people outdoors from 2 other households in a day, following strict hand hygiene and physical distancing advice.
  • Can travel more than 5 miles from home, book places to stay, and use toilets in other people's houses if they are meeting outdoors.
  • Can form an 'extended household group' with one other household.

A decision on whether shielding can be paused from 1 August will be announced before the end of July, with advice on returning to work, and whether children who are shielding can return to school.
