Flu programme expanded this winter due to coronavirus pandemicFlu programme expanded this winter due to coronavirus pandemic

The Government has announced that there will be an expanded flu vaccination programme in England this year, in the light of the coronavirus pandemic.

All frontline health and social care workers will be urged to get their free vaccine to protect themselves and their patients or residents from the flu.

People who are on the shielded patient list and members of their household, all school year groups up to year 7, people aged over 65, pregnant women, and those with pre-existing conditions, including at-risk under 2s, will be eligible.

In addition, free vaccine will be made available to people aged 50 to 64 later in the year, once the main campaign is well underway.

The programme will start in September, alongside a full campaign to raise awareness. Further details of the programme and campaign for social care providers are expected shortly. UKHCA is in touch with the organisers and will be emailing members with information, once received.
