A new compulsory tax on everyone of over 40 is being considered by government to address the social care crisis and avoid catastrophic care costs being imposed on individuals. The Guardian reports that plans are being drawn up, as we pass the anniversary of Prime Minister's promise to fix the 'social care crisis'.

However, the report warns, the Treasury is likely to have the final say. Changes to the tax system usually take effect UK-wide. Guardian, 27 July 2020
