Report shows domiciliary care jobs now exceed those in care homesReport shows domiciliary care jobs now exceed those in care homes

Skills for Care's new report on the size and structure of the adult social care sector and workforce in England shows there are now more domiciliary care jobs (715,000) than care homes (680,000) or any other part of social care.

The number of jobs in domiciliary care has also increased at a faster rate between 2012/13 and 2019/20 (an increase of 95,000 jobs and 15%) than jobs in residential services (an increase of 25,000 jobs and 4%).

Dr Jane Townson, CEO of UKHCA, said the figures highlighted the need for proportionate funding and focus from the government. Adequate public funding for homecare would bring benefits both for health and the economy.
