Only nineteen families have received benefits from compensation schemeOnly nineteen families have received benefits from compensation scheme

Government figures suggest 19 families have received death benefits from the NHS staff coronavirus compensation scheme, and at least 540 health and social workers have died in England and Wales during the crisis. A further 32 claims are being considered.

DHSC say employers should, if they become aware of a death where there may be eligibility for a claim, contact the next of kin with details of the scheme.

The scheme relates to England. There is a separate one for Wales.
