Prime Minister announces postponement of lockdown release, amid rising case levelsPrime Minister announces postponement of lockdown release, amid rising case levels

Today the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, announced a delay in the easing of some national lockdown measures. This is due to an increase in the number of cases seen nationally.

This will mean a delay of at least two weeks in the loosening of restrictions on high risk venues such as some sports centres and conference centres and will also affect weddings.

However, the changes to the timetable will not affect shielding being paused from 1st August as planned. It will not affect the increased discretion employers have about adjusting arrangements for those working from home if they can work in a Covid Secure workplace.

The guidance to wear face coverings will be extended to a wider range of indoor settings where you are likely to come into contact with people you do not usually meet: such as museums, galleries, cinemas and places of worship. This will become enforceable from 8 August.

The speech is available here. Guidance, Face coverings: when to wear one and how to make your own, updated 31 July 2020.
