Secratary of State delivers "Future of healthcare" speech, launching consultation on bureaucracySecratary of State delivers "Future of healthcare" speech, launching consultation on bureaucracy

On 30 July the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock, delivered a speech at the Royal College of Physicians on "The future of healthcare."

Key themes of the speech included the desire to cut unnecessary bureaucracy, integrate health and social care and to "push power out of the centre, closer to where care is delivered". Following the speech, the Department of Health and Social Care have launched a consultation inviting feedback from those working in health and social care about how to cut unnecessary bureaucracy (respond by 13 September).

The Secretary of State also referenced the intention to bring forward plans to reform social care funding and oversight. He indicated this was a "top priority".

The speech is available here.
