Contact tracing app to be developed in ScotlandContact tracing app to be developed in Scotland

There are plans for develop a contract tracing app in Scotland, to support the NHS Scotland’s Test and Protect system. The aim is to use Bluetooth technology to anonymously alert users if they have been in close contact with another user who has tested positive for coronavirus. The app will be available in the autumn via Apple and Google app stores, and complement person to person contact tracing carried out by Test and Protect.

The app is voluntary and relies on individuals who test positive receiving a code on their mobile and agreeing to this data being sent to a server. The app doesn’t use personal data and is similar to the one in use in Northern Ireland.
