Local restrictions in England: updatesLocal restrictions in England: updates

Local restrictions are continuing in parts of the North of England and Leicester. The latest guidance has advised that the lockdown easements announced nationally will not apply in the restricted areas of the North of England or Leicester from 15 August, as they will in the rest of the country. There will be additional powers to issue fines if people disregard the rules relating to meeting people at home or in a garden.

In Luton, temporary local restrictions have lifted and restrictions now correspond to those in the rest of England. However, those in Luton who are clinically extremely vulnerable have been advised to shield until 17 August.

The guidance on shielding was updated earlier this week in relation to travelling to work in a local lockdown area. "If you work inside an area where clinically extremely vulnerable people are still being advised to shield, you are advised to work from home where possible, and not attend a workplace within the area where local restrictions are in place. If you live outside of that area, you may need to request a shielding letter as proof for your employer that you cannot attend your usual workplace."
