New National Institute for Health Protection to replace Public Health EnglandNew National Institute for Health Protection to replace Public Health England

The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care has announced that a new organisation will be formed whose primary focus is public health protection and infectious disease capability.

Whilst the organisation will be formally operational from spring 2021, it will, from today, bring Public Health England, NHS Test and Trace and the analytic capability of the Joint Biosecurity Centre under a single leadership team. It will report directly to the Health and Care Secretary and support the four UK Chief Medical Officers.

The organisation will be led by Baroness Dido Harding, who has been leading NHS Test and Trace.
