Age UK calls for urgent recognition of care workers' valuable contributionAge UK calls for urgent recognition of care workers' valuable contribution

A report by Age UK says care workers in England are entitled to feel under prepared, under-supported, under-protected and under-rewarded in the pandemic, compared with their counterparts in health. The care sector is under-staffed and has variable access to PPE. Staff are poorly paid and have been omitted from recent Government announcements about pay rises for public sector staff. Despite the trauma of the pandemic, care staff have inadequate access to mental health support and need similar access to their counterparts in the NHS.

The report concludes with a list of recommendations and call for urgent action to ensure the contributions, skills and commitment of care workers are recognised, including pay parity with health.
