The Department for Health and Social Care have appointed Professor Deborah Sturdy OBE as Chief Nurse for Adult Social Care in England as an interim appointment for 6 months. It is intended that a permanent appointment will be made in 2021.
The new role (which formed part of the Adult Social Care Winter Plan), is intended to ensure that there is a leader of, and champion for, social care nursing. It is anticipated that the Chief Nurse will engage with frontline social care nurses and represent their views, provide clinical leadership and work to ensure high quality, personalised and joined up care is delivered.
