Independent review of adult social care in Scotland - report publishedIndependent review of adult social care in Scotland - report published

The independent review of adult social care support in Scotland, led by Derek Feeley, has handed their report to the Scottish Government.

Recommendations include:

  • Setting up a National Care Service, to ensure strategic integration with the National Health Service.
  • Appointing a minister specifically for Social Care, with legal responsibility and accountability for social care passing from local authorities to ministers.
  • Making social care free 'at the point of need', like the NHS, with increased funding and a human rights-based approach to care.
  • The service should not be nationalised and the current use of private, third sector and public care providers should carry on.
