NHS England is to pay GPs an extra £10 for every COVID vaccination they deliver to someone who is housebound. The move is to ensure the most vulnerable people are vaccinated as swiftly as possible.
Dr Jane Townson, CEO of UKHCA, tweeted: "It is great to see the importance recognised of reaching everybody, especially people who struggle or are unable to get out. People with dementia and frailty need to be considered too."
The £10 per visit additional funding recognises the extra staff time and complexity of vaccinating the housebound and applies retrospectively to home visits already made by GPs to vaccinate people at home.
