The Welsh Government have published guidance on who is considered a social care worker for the purpose of COVID-19 vaccination in Wales.
Eligibility is based on the vulnerability of the person in receipt of care or support (due to age or underlying health conditions, for example) and the nature of support that is provided (e.g. personal care, close regular or prolonged contact where social distancing is not possible).
The guidance clarifies that eligibility is not based on location of where care and support is delivered or whether the care worker is employed by a local authority, in the independent sector, by an agency or is self employed.
The guidance also lists those who are unlikely to be eligible - this includes administrative staff, managers and other staff who are not providing care and support to vulnerable people.
