Revised guidance on the Oxford AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccineRevised guidance on the Oxford AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine

Around four people in every million doses of the Astra Zeneca Vaccine delivered have developed an unusual blood clotting condition following vaccination - this is extremely unlikely and rare.

On review of the information available the JCVI and MHRA have suggested that the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks for most people. However, as a precaution the advice for healthy younger persons aged 18-29 who have not received a first dose has been revised to suggest that it would be preferable for them to have an alternative vaccine.

Everyone (including people aged 18-29) is advised to have a second dose of the vaccine if they have received a first without suffering serious side effects.

An information leaflet is available here.
