New employment rights enforcement body plannedNew employment rights enforcement body planned

The Government has announced an intention to create a new "workers' watchdog". It will tackle modern day slavery and enforce employment rights including compliance with the minimum wage.

The new body will combine enforcement functions currently undertaken by the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority, the Employment Agency Standards Inspectorate and HMRC's National Minimum Wage Enforcement. The body will also give advice on good practice.

No timescale has been given for its introduction other than "when parliamentary time allows" for the necessary legislative developments.

See Government press release.
