Using the UKHCA Medication Policy Template

The template is an interactive tool that will help you write a bespoke medication policy for your organisation.

At the start of the programme, you will be asked to identify the definitions used within your organisation. The Template will then ask a series of questions on how your organisation manages medication. These will include information such as the level of medication administration you provide and other specific issues i.e. how you manage over-the-counter medication, joint working, disposal etc.

Some of these questions may not be pertinent to the level of medication assistance currently provided. However, you should complete the questions. Consider how this may affect your organisation in a one-off situation or at a future date.

Once all the questions have been answered, a bespoke medication policy is produced. It is important to read this policy carefully, ensuring that it reflects your organisations policy. Any unwanted procedures and text can be edited or deleted at this point or any points added as appropriate.

Once the medication policy is complete, you may update or change it at any time to reflect the current situation.
