As modern technologies have advanced, there has been considerable debate amongst the medical profession, public and in the courts about the possibility of over or under treatment of a person, especially towards the end of their life. As people are living longer and choosing to stay at home rather then enter residential care, homecare providers will increasingly be looking after elderly or frail individuals in their own homes and may need to support service users who have made, or would like to make, a “Do Not Attempt Resuscitation” instruction. In response, UKHCA's preferred solicitors, Anthony Collins Solicitors LLP, have produced a new factsheet for members about the legal basis of "Do Not Attempt Resuscitation" instructions.

    Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA)

On 8 November 2006 the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act received royal assent. The Act lays the foundation for a new vetting and barring scheme which will be phased in from autumn 2008, and will make considerable changes to pre-employment screening of homecare providers delivering services for adults and children in England and Wales. This website provides information about the development of the ISA.
